The Way in which music was used:

  • Classical music was used throughout the movie. A slow tempo type if classical music demonstrated sadness while a fast tempo type of classical music demonstrated happiness.
Slow jams were used during Dave’s stress reliever scene. A fast tempo type of hip hop was used during Dave’s voice over or whenever Derris father entered the scene.
    Camera Angles:
  • Most of the movie was shot in a medium shoot or long shot. The reason for this placing is because the director wanted his viewers to feel as if they were looking into these peoples life, as if they were stalkers. He only put a couple of different shoots and that was only to emphasize the reaction of the actors and actresses.
  • A reaction shot was seen when Dave told Clarice she was sounding like her mother right before the accident.
  • A point of view shoot was taken when the car slammed into Dave and Clarice.
  • Another reaction shoot was seen when Clarice approached Dave and explained how sorry she was for belittling him and how much she missed him.
  • An over the shoulder shot was seen when Dave kissed her.
  • Montage occurred right after this scene. This symbolized the amount of time that passed after they got back together.
  • The last scene of the movie was a reaction shoot between Dave and Clarice when she told him that she was pregnant. It then blended into a bird’s eye view shoot that showed the two hugged together. It then turned into a crane shoot showing the city and ending with a shoot of the sky.

Not Easily Broken Pages 186- 225

Summary:
Dave rushed to the hospital running through three red lights on the way. Once he entered the hospital he’s mind was only thinking about hoe Julie was reacting towards the news of her son’s death. The first thing he seen entering the waiting room was Julie and a man that look like her father. The first thing she said to him was that she couldn’t believe that Bryson was really gone. Dave responded by telling her that he would be there to comfort her for as long as she feels necessary. Just then her hysterical ex husband came in crying and sobbing for his dead son that he had not seen in 2 years. Dave decided to take Julie on a ride around the neighborhood to get her away from her family and her fake ex husband. He took her to a café but she did not want to eat.

While Dave was at the diner with Julie, Clarice was at the hotel when her bible dropped open to Ecclesiasts, it opened to the exact passage that was read on their wedding day. This passage talked about a marriage that is covered by got can is not easily broken. She then realized that she had forgotten the reason why she and Dave had gotten married in the first place. She remembered all the good times she spent with her husband and the horrible way she treated him during these last few years. As soon as she realized this she immediately called Carmen for an appointment to see if their marriage was savable or even worth saving. While talking with Carmen, Clarice asked her if she thought that she could fix her marriage. Ironically, Carmen referred to that same text in the bible. She said that if God wanted their marriage to be, he will work things out.

During this time, Dave and Julie were still together. Dave was trying his best to comfort women who had lost her son but he had no idea. That is when Julie confronted Dave asking him to love her in a way her son would never be able to. That is when she made a move on Dave. He began to kiss her when he thought about how this may hurt Clarice. That is when he realized he loved his wife tremendously and he could not afford to lose her. He left Julie’s house and went straight home. When he entered the house, he realized that Clarice was standing right their. All night, Clarice and Dave talked. One listened while the other spoke and surprisingly they were begging to comprehend what the other’s point has been all these years.

The story ends with the baseball team winning the championship. Julie and Brock began a relationship because Brock was there to comfort Julie when Dave had left. Dave and Clarice were still married and the visits to Carmen were just to strengthen their marriage not to save it. The main outcome of the story was that Clarice finally realized why Dave had love coaching the boys.

Quotation:

“The road may go down and it may go up, but as long as you keep walking, you’re going to get there. Just don’t sit down on the side” (Jakes 244)

Reflection:

This quote describes exactly how life was for these characters. First they started off smoothly without any worry, and then things began to get a little shaky. After things had nearly disappeared they had realized that they were strong and can be persistent and they ended their journey.
